Person County Habitat for Humanity
Bill Arel, Board President
Bill joined PCHFH towards the end of 2009 and has served in the capacity of Volunteer Team Leader and Vice President before taking the job as Board President for the 2012-2013 fiscal year. Bill also works closely with the Resource Development team on the annual yard sale and other fund raisers. Bill is responsible for promoting PCHFH in the community and providing transparency between the Board and the community that supports us.
Bill is married to Barb, who is the Resource Educator for Learning Connections at Earl Bradsher Preschool. Bill's “day job” is with Donald Wilson CPA as a tax consultant/preparer and he is also actively involved with Person County United Way and a member of The Knights of Columbus. Bill and Barb attend St. Mary and Edward Catholic Church.
Don Marlowe, Board Vice President
and Community Support Team Leader
Don also joined PCHFH in late 2009 and has served as Community Support Team Leader and works closely with Resource Development on the annual yard sale and other fundraisers. For the 2012-2013 fiscal year Don adds VP to his “resume”. As VP & CS Team Leader his main priority is keeping the community of Person County aware of what's going on with PCHFH and increase community involvement.
Don is married to Shelly and they love to spend time traveling to see the world. Don is a former carpet designer and a watercolor artist and many of his works are inspired by the places they visit. Some of his paintings can be seen at local art shows held at the Kirby Cultural Arts Complex. In May he took 1st place in the category of Paper at Artfest 2012. Don & Shelly attend St. Mark's Episcopal Church.
Etta Jones, Board Secretary
and Family Selection Team Leader
Etta joined PCHFH several years ago and immediately put her attention to detail and people skills to work with Family Selection and Support. Etta has helped several families realize their dream of homeownership through Habitat. Beginning with the 2012-2013 fiscal year Etta is also the Board Secretary and responsible for keeping record of Board meetings and report filing with Habitat International.
Etta is a Person County native and has worked for Piedmont Community College as the Administrative Assistant to the Vice President, Instruction and Student Development. She has been with PCC since 1985. Etta has 2 sons, a daughter-in-law, and 3 grandchildren and is active in her church, Old Mt. Zion Baptist in Roxboro.
Ron Bremer, Board Treasurer
Ron joined PCHFH in mid 2010 as the Treasurer and has been instrumental in keeping track of the affiliate's phenomenal financial growth spurt from the successful fundraisers and community donations. Ron's financial experience aids him in keeping the financial records up to date and providing accurate tax records and reports. Ron is responsible for verifying accounting transactions, keeping accurate ledgers, and filing the annual tax reports.
Ron has a son who is in the Army and a daughter who is a nurse. He is married to Jayne, who is the Executive Director for Person County United Way. Both are North Carolina natives and graduated from ECU. Ron is the Edward Jones Financial Advisor here in Roxboro helping people secure their financial futures. Ron & Jayne are very active in the community and in their church, Warrens Grove United Methodist Church.
Resource Development Team Leader
Graydon has been with PCHFH the longest and has officially and unofficially served in nearly every capacity. Graydon's greatest ability is with promoting Habitat in the community and securing the much needed resources including monetary donations, building materials, and the yard sale items that have made the annual sale the most profitable of the fundraisers. Graydon is also responsible for keeping contact with area churches and finding volunteers.
Graydon is a semi-retired butcher for The Hurdle Mills Market. He is married to Judy who is active with the Pregnancy Support Center in Roxboro and an avid supporter of a new Senior Center for Person County. They are both active with the Person County Council on Aging and their church, Roxboro Baptist.
Rick DeWald, Construction Supervisor
Rick joined PCHFH in early 2009 volunteering for many events and fundraisers. Since the fall of 2010 he has been using his 20+ years experience in the construction industry to help plan and build the 7th Habitat house in Person County. Rick also provides consultation services to current Habitat partner families for repair and maintenance issues. Rick is responsible for ensuring the PCHFH construction projects are built to NC Building Code and meets Habitat's commitment to energy efficient affordable homes.
Rick is a VA native with two adult daughters and is married to Carol Truby. They have two grandsons. Rick is owner of R&C Home Care, Inc. which is a home improvement and lawn care business in Roxboro. Rick and Carol are big time Nascar fans and have been camping at Charlotte, Martinsville, and Richmond where they took their oldest grandson to experience his first race.
Carol Truby, Capacity Building Team Leader
Carol also joined PCHFH in early 2009 and immediately began working on updating the affiliate's documents and reporting procedures, as well as promoting PCHFH through a booth at the then new 501 Flea Market and recruiting new board members. Carol was the Board VP for the 2009-2010 fiscal year and the President for 2 fiscal years following. She also works with Etta on Family Selection and Support and Rick on Construction. Carol's responsibilities include promoting and expanding the affiliate, communicating Habitat's policies and procedures for all departments within the affiliate, and forming partnerships with other funding opportunities.
Carol is a Californian with two adult children. Carol and Rick met in Florida and moved to NC with Carol's sister, who wanted to attend NCSU. Carol's parents soon followed, escaping the never-ending Florida heat. Avid pet lovers Carol & Rick have 5 dogs and a cat and spend their spare time on home improvements of their own. They are currently researching cost effective affordable ways to make older mobile homes energy efficient.
Curtis Swann, Family Support Team Leader
Curtis is the newest member of the PCHFH Board, having just joined in July 2012. Curtis will be the voice of the Partner Families and assist the board with issues that most affect them. Because Curtis' family is the most recent Partner Family, Curtis will be able to use his experience with the process to support new families as they go through the process in the future.
Curtis is married to Leslie and they have 3 children. Leslie works as a Production Coordinator for Almac Clinical Services in Durham and as Music Director for Old Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Curtis attends Piedmont Community College full time to study nursing and works for North American Aerodynamics. Curtis & Leslie are Roxboro natives and both have plenty of family locally.
