Annual Auction & Yard Sale
May 2012 marked our 3rd year
Holding a yard sale of this size takes a year to gather donated items and sign up volunteers but the pay-off for PCHFH is huge! The annual yard sale brings in about $10,000 each year to help build homes for low-wealth families who can't get a conventional mortgage.
This year's event held in May at the old C&G Hardware store offered bargain hunters a ton of general merchandise as well as some unique items like the fishing boat with fish finder and trolling motor.
Plans are already underway for May 2013 and items began coming in as soon as the last yard sale was over. Volunteers are needed to help with the donation drop-off days, to help pick up large items, and to plan & execute the sale.
See our Calendar for drop-off and sale dates. Most household items & building materials will be accepted but there is a short list of things we can't take:
- No mattresses or bedding unless part of a complete bedroom suite & clean
- No clothes or shoes
- No broken or dirty appliances
- No broken tools
- No explosive
- No firearms
If you are having some remodeling done at your home or business please consider donating the items you are replacing to PCHFH and keep usable items out of the landfill. Ask your contractor to carefully remove those items and then call us to schedule a pick-up or drop-off.
One year an older set of kitchen cabinets were re-painted and re-configured for a kitchen remodeling project one of our customers had going on (pictured). A second donated set of cabinets that did not fit in our current home building project was sold for enough money to completely outfit our build with cabinets, counters, plumbing fixtures, and a few extras.
Thanks to the generous support of Person County residents the annual yard sale helps raise money while keeping several tons of unused items out of the landfill and given a new life in a new home.
